The Langkawi Ferry services is the main water transport service provider that ferries passengers in and out of Langkawi Island. Operated by Langkawi Ferry Services Sdn Bhd (LFS), it began operations in 1997 and has been servicing thousands of visitors each year. LFS started off with 6 high-speed ferries and today operates 12 ferries that commute between the island with Kuala Kedah, Kuala Perlis, Penang, Pulau Payar Marine Park and Satun in Thailand. Apart from that, LFS also operates this service for passengers coming to Langkawi Island from Indonesia through Medan.

The current ferry fleet operated by LFS is able to operate at a speed between 30 to 40 knots where they are able to bring 100 to 200 people at any one time. Its first service started operations between Langkawi Island with Kuala Perlis before expanding to Kuala Kedah and Satun in Thailand a year later. After that, LFS would continue to provide services to Penang as well as from Penang to Pulau Payar Marine Park. In 2000, LFS started its Medan to Penang route and has been offering these premium services ever since.

As Langkawi Island is very popularly known as one of the major tourist destinations in the region, LFS has been working relentlessly to provide visitors to Langkawi the best transportation services to the island. Naturally, the best way to come to Langkawi Island is by sea which means that LFS plays a crucial role in the development and promotion of Langkawi Island in the tourism sector as the premier transportation service provider.

The current fleet of ferries operated by LFS include Alaf Baru 1 and 2, Impian 2 and 3, Kenangan 1, 2, 3 and 6, Lambaian 1, 2 and 3 and Satun 1. All the ferries operated by LFS are air-conditioned and comes with in-house video within its cabin. Passengers can enjoy a comfortable trip with the reclining seats available while some of them come with a mini canteen where you can have a meal when travelling. Ticket prices start from RM18 while children pay around RM13 per trip for the Kuala Perlis-Langkawi route. If you are coming in from Kuala Kedah, the price of tickets would be RM23 for adults and RM17 for children. The Langkawi-Penang route will take almost 3 hours where adults pay RM60 per trip while children pay RM45 and RM25 for those between 3 to 11 years and below 2 years respectively.
